Ferndale 66, Sehome 58
After a high-scoring first quarter, which the Golden Eagles held a slim lead 18-17, the defenses took over in the second and when both teams went into the locker room the Mariners had the advantage at 24-23.
It was high-octane scoring again in the third quarter, and the main driving force was the outside shooting of Ferndale senior Naomi Stanley.
She made all four of her three-point attempts in the third quarter as the Golden Eagles retook the lead, 49-43, going into the fourth quarter.
Foul trouble hindered the Mariners as Ferndale kept bombing away from beyond the three-point line. The biggest deep ball that was hit was by sophomore Kayla Washington who connected from the top of the key with 30 seconds left in the game to put the Golden Eagles up by five.
Sehome wasn’t able to come back from that, and ultimately fell at home.
Stanley led Ferndale with 17 points, while senior Mallory Butenschoen and sophomore Jillea Fox finished with 15 points each.
Senior guard Madi Cooper led the scoring barrage for the Mariners with 23 points.
