LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, LAKESIDE-NINE MILE FALLS 0

Lenssen

The Lyncs started out their Saturday with a strong win over the Eagles in straight sets, 25-18, 25-11 and 25-14.

Lynden Christian’s win kept its season alive, and a huge boost was given early on when seniors Sydney Terpstra and Kenzie Lenssen entered the lineup.

Terpstra had numerous attacks early in her showing, and Lenssen had a diving dig that received an ovation from the crowd.

 

MERIDIAN 3, SETON CATHOLIC 0

Wells

The Trojans kept their season alive on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Cougars in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20.

Once again, Meridian used a strong serving game, great defense and timely cross-court kills to get past Seton Catholic.

A set by senior Grace Wells fed junior Taya Benson to the power kill which allowed the Trojans to take the first set.

Meridian won the second set when junior Gracie Pap’s left-handed kill went cross court and found the flooring.

A powerful kill by sophomore Eden Bernardy was unable to be played cleanly by Seton Catholic in the third set, and the Trojans took the sweep.

 

LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, MERIDIAN 0

The Trojans won the regular season matchup in October, and the Lyncs won their matchup for the District Championship, and the Lyncs won the rubber match in straight sets to take seventh place in the 1A State Tournament.

Fritts

Lynden Christian won the first set 25-19, and finished it off with kills from senior Danya Dykstra, freshman Tyra Dykstra and junior Alli Wright.

The Lyncs looked even stronger in the second set, and won 25-16, to put the Trojans on the ropes in the the third set.

Meridian started out extremely strong in the third set and led 12-6 early on, which caused Lynden Christian to take a timeout. The set stayed even for a short while, as Meridian held a 15-9 lead, but the Lyncs started to creep back.

After a 10-4 run, the Lyncs tied the set up at 19-19 when the Trojans committed a service error.

Pap

Lynden Christian started to pull away, and went up 23-20 when a kill attempt by Tyra Dykstra was blocked, but went out of bounds.

An LC service error gave Meridian life, and that was followed up by a kill by sophomore Eden Bernardy to cut Lynden Christian’s lead to 23-22.

A block by junior Gracie Pap tied the set at 23-23, but a sneaky kill from Lync junior setter Ella Fritts gave her team a 24-23 lead.

An ace from junior Ellie Meyer closed the match out and secured the seventh place trophy.

The Trojans took home the 8th place trophy.

 

FERNDALE 3, EDMONDS-WOODWAY 1

Williams

After dropping the first set 25-18, the Golden Eagles conquered their way through the next three sets, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-21 to secure a spot in the 3A State Tournament.

Senior Lay Williams led the offensive attack with 17 kills to go along with her 2.5 blocks. Sophomore Svetlana Baydak added 13 kills to the ledger.

Senior Terrace Hendrickson had eight kills, and sophomore setter Brooklyn Larrabee handed out 43 assists while also picking up 15 digs, two aces and two blocks.

Junior Katrina Ferry added 12 digs, and junior Caitlyn Berg had 10 digs and a pair of aces.

Ferndale will find out its first round opponent of the state tournament at some point on Sunday.
