FERNDALE 3, MERIDIAN 0

In one of the most anticipated early season matches, the Golden Eagles came out strong at home in the first set, and won 25-10.

Williams

The Trojans fought hard in the second, but ultimately fell 25-23. The third set was a nail-biter throughout, and strong defensive play kept the set alive on both sides, with Ferndale ultimately taking it 31-29.

Varsity newcomer, and sophomore, Svetlana Baydak led the Golden Eagles with six kills. She was closely followed by senior Lay Williams who powered her way to five kills, with most of them coming across the court at a torrid velocity. Williams also assisted on two blocks.

Sophomore setter Brooklyn Larrabee totaled 19 assists, while also leading the team with three aces and picking up four digs.

Junior libero Katrina Ferry led with 11 digs, and she was aided defensively by seniors Amelie McKeon and Gabby Lenssen who combined for five blocks.

Stats for Meridian were unable to be kept.

 

LYNDEN 3, SQUALICUM 0

R. Stephan

The Lions began their season with a bang at home as they defeated the Storm 25-12, 25-7 and 25-20.

Junior Rian Stephan made her presence known up front with a team-high 18 kills, while also picking up 12 digs and three aces.

Sophomore Finley Parcher played a well-rounded game with eight kills, nine digs and a team-high six aces.

Jones

Senior Kamryn Hermanutz had a team-high 13 digs, and freshman Izzie Stephan had 29 assists and two blocks in her varsity debut.

Squalicum was led by junior Jolie Paz who had six kills, six digs and a block. Sophomore Bronwyn Jones added six digs. Junior Hannah Warner added three kills, and sophomore Alyssa Roselli had seven assists.

 

NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, OAK HARBOR 0

DeHoog

The Pioneers started their season out on the right foot, as they defeated the Wildcats at home 25-17, 25-18 and 25-20.

Junior Grace DeHoog had a team-high 12 kills, and she was joined at the net by sophomore Elizabeth DeLange who finished with 10 kills and three blocks.

Junior Avery Juergens led with eight digs, while junior Payton Bartl dished out 27 assists and sophomore Karson Olney finished with a pair of aces.

 

SEDRO-WOOLLEY 3, BELLINGHAM 0

Smith

The Bayhawks went on big runs, and got close to finishing off victoriously in the first set, but ultimately lost 28-26. They then dropped the next two sets 25-10 and 25-19 on the road.

Junior outside hitter Jayda Knutsen led her team with six kills, while also having three digs. Freshman Sonoma Smith added four kills and a team-high seven digs.

Sophomore setter Bailey Burge finished with 14 assists, and junior middle blocker Mary Lockhart had four kills and two blocks.

 

LAKEWOOD 3, BLAINE 0

Smith

The Cougars beat the Borderites 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 to spoil Blaine’s home opener.

The Borderites were led by senior Kaitlyn Harrington who had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, as well as a team-high three aces and a block.

Sophomore Teia Dube added 16 digs and two aces, and senior Brie Smith finished with 14 digs and 19 assists.
