Big service runs by the Mariners in the second and third set is what set the tone for Sehome’s victory over the Bayhawks, who won 25-12, 25-17 and 25-18.
The biggest contributor to the service line for the Mariners was junior Hayden Niewiadomski who posted eight aces on the evening. She and fellow junior Bridgette Adams helped lead Sehome to victory with each of them posting 10 kills and 11 digs.
Junior libero Makenna Andrews added 11 digs, and sophomore Paige Flory had nine digs to go with five aces.
Senior setter Emmy Lee gave out 20 assists, and freshman Taylor Turrell added 10 assists of her own.
Bellingham was led defensively by junior Olivia Siemanowski who had six blocks. Sophomore setter finished with 19 assists and five digs, and freshman Sonoma Smith had five kills and five digs.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, BLAINE 1
The Borderites got in a rhythm early, playing their third match in three nights, and defeated the Lyncs 26-24 in the first set.
Lynden Christian returned the favor in the second set, winning 25-22, and went on to beat Blaine 25-10 and 25-11 to close out the match.
Junior Alli Wright led the Lyncs at the net with 10 kills and two blocks, as well as at the service line with six aces.
Junior setter Ella Fritts filled the stat sheet with 35 assists, nine digs, seven kills, two aces and a block, and sophomore Ellie Pierce added four aces and seven digs.
The Borderites were led by sophomore Teia Dube who had seven kills and four aces. Junior libero Hannah Phelps-McDonald added 11 digs, as did senior Kaitlyn Harrington who also had six kills.
MERIDIAN 3, MOUNT BAKER 0
The Trojans picked up their first win of the season by defeating the Mountaineers 25-10, 25-11 and 25-12.
Sophomore Eden Bernardy had a huge night with nine kills, 10 digs and eight aces, all of which led Meridian. Freshman Melanie Short added eight kills, seven digs and three aces, and junior Gracie Pap finished with seven kills.
Senior Grace Wells had 23 assists and three aces, and senior Rylan Bernardy added eight digs and two aces.
Mount Baker was led by junior Maddi Lewis who had 12 kills and six aces, as well as senior Gracie Zender who had four kills and her hustle on defense kept many plays alive.
Senior Annalee Cohn added 10 assists and two kills.
BURLINGTON EDISON 3, SQUALICUM 0
The Storm pushed the heavily favored Tigers in the first set, but came up short, 26-24, before falling 25-12 and 25-18 to finish the match.
Burlington-Edison finished fourth in the 2A state tournament last season without a senior, is one of the favorites in the Northwest Conference.
Squalicum was led at the net by junior Archer Burns who had four kills and two blocks, while sophomore Penelope Durias finished with four kills, three aces and four digs.
Junior libero Gwen Foy added a team-high nine digs, and sophomore setter Alyssa Roselli finished with 11 assists, five digs and three aces.
