SQUALICUM 3, BELLINGHAM 0

Thompson

In the crosstown rivalry, the Bayhawks put forth an awesome effort, but just couldn’t get past the Storm who took it in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.

Early offensive attacks from Jayda Knutsen and Sonoma Smith of Bellingham put Squalicum on its heels and forced the Storm to take a timeout. From there on out, Squalicum was able to go on a few runs and complete the comeback.

Knutsen

Junior Jolie Paz led the Storm with eight kills and four aces, and she was aided by sophomore Tiana Thompson who had six kills (.462 hitting percentage), and junior Archer Burns who finished with three kills, two aces, five digs and four blocks.

Sophomore Penelope Durias led with 13 digs, and she was closely followed by Bronwyn Jones’ nine digs, while Jazzy Bersola and Alyssa Roselli combined for 23 assists.

SEHOME 3, LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 2

Almost 30 years ago, the Seattle Mariners’ slogan was “Refuse to Lose”. Last night, on the road, it was a Sehome Mariner that felt that same burning desire, to do anything it took not to lose.

Lee

Sehome senior captain Emmy Lee huddled her team together numerous times in the fifth set, and brought composure to her teammates, while also relaying to them that she would not let her team be defeated.

With both teams having won two sets, and the score in the Mariners’ favor 14-13 in the fifth set, the Lyncs put forth a short serve that was perfectly placed just over the net, and when the ball began to lose its momentum and fall to the gym floor for the tying 14th point, Lee was able to reach out her left hand just enough to make decent contact with the ball and send it back over the net to a spot where the Lyncs were not expecting.

When the ball hit the court, Lee’s teammates rushed the court to celebrate her achievement, the grueling victory, as well as her impressive leadership.

Lee also led her team with 36 assists, with the majority of them going to junior Hayden Niewiadomski who had 17 kills, and sophomore Paige Flory who finished with 16 kills. Both hitters also displayed hitting percentages over .300.

Fritts

Junior libero Makenna Andrews led with 22 digs, and Flory also had nine aces and 10 digs.

Lynden Christian won the first set 25-21, before dropping the second 25-16.

The Lyncs battled to win the third 27-25, and then lost 25-16 which set up the thrilling final set.

Junior Alli Wright led her team with 10 kills, 3.5 blocks and three aces, and sophomore Lyla Parriera finished with a team-high 18 digs.

Junior Ella Fritts had 35 assists, five kills, six digs and two blocks, and junior Etta DeJong had eight kills, six digs and two blocks.
