It was a fast start by the Mountaineers, behind first-year head coach Jennifer Galbraith, but after the Mariners called a timeout, they were able to regroup and come back to beat Mount Baker in the first set 25-16.
Sehome rode strong serving in the second set to win 25-10, and closed out the third set by winning 25-17.
The Mariners were extremely strong from the service line with a team total of 22 aces. Nine of which came from freshman Jillian Parfet in her varsity debut, and Anya Winter added six.
Junior Hayden Niewiadomski added eight kills to lead the team, while senior Leah Lockwood contributed with five kills to go with her team-high four blocks.
Sehome senior Emmy Lee totaled a team-high 15 assists, while also giving way to freshman setter Taylor Turrell who added 11 assists in her varsity debut.
The Mountaineers were led by senior Annalee Cohn who had 10 assists and two aces, while junior Kylee Bruland led with 10 digs, and junior Amariah Nutting had a team-high five kills to go along with three digs, two assists and two aces.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, MOUNT VERNON 1
The Lyncs went on the road, played in front of an intense Bulldog crowd and was able to come home with the victory.
Lynden Christian took the first set 25-22, and Mount Vernon evened up the score by winning 25-23 in the second set. The Lyncs took the pivotal third set 25-23 before winning 25-19 in the fourth and final set.
Sophomore libero Lyla Parriera stood out with 23 digs, six assists and four aces to help lead from the back court, while senior Sydney Terpstra led her team with 16 kills to go along with her seven digs.
Junior Etta DeJong added 12 kills and seven digs, sophomore Jocelyn Eshuis was extremely strong in the middle with an incredible seven blocks and junior Ella Fritts set her teammates up with 45 assists over the four sets.
