LYNDEN 3, SEHOME 1

Stephan

It was a battle between the two top teams in Whatcom County, with the Mariners taking the first set 25-22. The Lions went on a bit of a roll to take the second set 25-13.

The third set was thrilling to very end, and was extremely important to the momentum. Lynden ended up taking it 28-26, and followed it up with a 25-19 win in the fourth to secure second place in the current Northwest Conference standings.

Niewiadomski

Junior Rian Stephan finished with 11 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Finley Parcher ended with 11 kills, 10 digs and a pair of aces as the two 6-foot-plus attackers led the Lions.

Freshman Izzie Stephan added 23 assists, eight digs and five aces, while junior Campbell DeJong flew around the back court to grab 17 digs and senior Kamryn Hermanutz added 14 digs and three kills.

The Mariners were led offensively by junior Hayden Niewiadomski who had 12 kills, and senior Emmy Lee who had 22 assists and three touch kills.

Junior Makenna Andrews led the defense with 16 digs, and freshman Jillian Parfet led her team with four aces.

 

BELLINGHAM 3, MOUNT BAKER 1

Siemanowski

In a tight battle, the Mountaineers took the first set 25-21, but the Bayhawks battled back at home to take the next three, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21 to pick up their first conference win of the season.

The Bellingham front line of juniors Mary Lockhart and Olivia Siemanowski, and freshman Sonoma Smith, combined for 30 kills, with each player posting 10 each. Siemanowski also excelled defensively at the net with five blocks.

Gesmundo

Sophomore Bailey Burge added 10 digs, junior Jayda Knutsen led with four aces and junior setter Sadie Hanley handed out 30 assists.

Mount Baker was led by junior Kaia Gesmundo who flew above the net for eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage.

Senior Annalee Cohn added 25 assists, two aces, two kills and two blocks, and junior Maddi Lewis finished with nine kills, three aces and two blocks.

 

NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, MOUNT VERNON 0

Rutgers

The Pioneers had to scrap for everything they got in a close match with the Bulldogs.

After winning the first set 25-20, Nooksack Valley got by with a 28-26 win in the second set, and found itself down 24-20 in the third set, but rallied back to take the victory 26-24.

Junior Grace DeHoog and sophomore Elizabeth DeLange led the way with 11 kills a piece, with DeHoog adding a team-high 14 digs and DeLange putting forth an astounding hitting percentage of .611.

Junior Payton Bartl distributed 21 assists and dug out eight, while junior Gracie Rutgers added nine kills, and junior Avery Juergens had seven digs and a team-high four aces.

 

ANACORTES 3, BLAINE 0

Dube

The Borderites fought hard, but couldn’t overcome the high-flying Seahawks who defeated Blaine 25-17, 25-17 and 25-19.

Sophomore Teia Dube finished with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage to lead the offensive attack, and senior Kaitlyn Harrington had a great overall game with four kills, six digs and three aces.

Junior Carly Saunders finished with four kills and six blocks, while senior Brie Smith and junior Ainslee Ellis combined for 14 assists.
