The Trojans avenged the regular season loss to the Pioneers by shooting their way to the district tournament win at home against their rivals.

Fyfe

A high-scoring first quarter nearly became tied at the buzzer when Nooksack Valley senior guard Caden Heutink succeeded in nailing a shot from 90 feet away with 0.1 seconds left, but it was decided by the officials that it came just a hair too late, and Meridian went into the second quarter with a 23-20 lead.

Trojan senior guard Jaeger Fyfe the scored nine points in the second quarter to help his team extend its lead to 42-34 at the half.

The strong defense by Meridian allowed just 22 points by the Pioneers in the second half, and it was big shots down the stretch from senior Canyon James and junior Matthew Blankenburg that helped ignite the Trojan offense.

Heutink

Fyfe finished with 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead his team, and senior forward Talon Jenkins added 12 points and five boards.

Blankenburg and James each had season-highs with 11 points and eight points, respectively.

Heutink led all scorers with 30 points, and senior guard Cory Olney added nine points for Nooksack Valley.

The Trojans will now play Lynden Christian on Saturday at 4:15 for the district championship at Lynden High School. The Pioneers will also be at Lynden High School on Saturday and will try to keep their season alive as they battle Mount Baker at 12:45 in the consolation round of the district tournament.

The Lyncs scorched the net at a 60% clip, which also included making 12 three-pointers, on their way to victory over the Mountaineers at home.

Ga. Dykstra

The offense came early and often for Lynden Christian who put up 61 points by halftime.

Leading the charge was senior guard Gannon Dykstra who shot 8-for-16 from the field and finished with 24 points and seven assists to lead his team.

Sophomore guard Dawson Hintz had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and sophomore forward Kaden Veldman added 13 points, six boards, four assists and three blocks.

Junior forward Boyce Robertson was perfect on the night, as he made all five of his field goal attempts, with 11 points.

L. Smith

Mount Baker was led by senior forward Luke Smith who shot 8-for-14 from the field to finish with 19 points.

Senior forward Darius Gilstrap added seven points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Lyncs will now play Meridian on Saturday at 4:15 for the district championship at Lynden High School.
