The Lions took charge from the start, quickly racking up eight points and holding the Lyncs off the board until the three-minute mark of the first quarter.
They charged to 8-1 and 7-0 runs in the second quarter and held a 36-23 lead when sophomore guard Malachi Koenen swished a shot from beyond the arc as the halftime buzzer went off, igniting the home crowd and taking his team into the locker room with a 16-point advantage.
The Lions expanded to a 22-point lead with a little over three minutes to go in the third quarter.
But, the Lyncs weren’t ready to go down without a fight. Lynden Christian went on an 11-1 run at the end of the third quarter and scored eight straight points in the fourth, battling back to within five points with just a minute left in the game. However, with the Lynden players knocking down their free throws, the final nails were put in the coffin and the Lions took the town of Lynden for the second straight year.
Lynden was led by the 17 points and 14 rebounds of senior forward Brant Heppner. Koenen finished with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from downtown, and senior forward Jack Stapleton added 12 points.
Junior guard Spencer Adams and sophomore guard Gordy Bedlington contributed nine and seven points, respectively.
For the Lyncs, senior guard Gannon Dykstra led the way with his 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting, and he was aided by the 23 points of sophomore guard Dawson Hintz.
Sophomore forward Kaden Veldman chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds.
