Pioneer senior guard Caden Heutink had been held to half of his scoring average going into the final play of the game, but it was his closing bucket that mattered most as his jump step into the lane allowed him to reach around the Trojan defender and put the ball off the glass as time expired to give his team the one-point win at home.
Meridian held a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but big shots by junior guard Owen Wichers helped elevate Nooksack Valley within striking distance as the game came to the exciting finish.
6-foot-6 senior Tristan Kamphouse led the Pioneers in scoring with 12 points, and senior center Brady Ackerman added 11 points down low.
The Trojans were led offensively by sophomore guard Trey Alexander who finished with a career-high 13 points.
Meridian star seniors Talon Jenkins and Jaeger Fyfe were both hampered with foul troubles (each player picked up their fourth foul halfway through the third quarter), and each finished with 12 points.

The Bulldogs hit a three-pointer as time expired in overtime to defeat the Storm by one point.
Squalicum led by as much as 14 points in the second half, but Mount Vernon continued the claw back throughout the second half, and finished the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run to put the game into overtime.
Senior guard Marcus Nixon led the Storm with 22 points, as he made 8-of-16 from the field, which included 3-of-5 from downtown.
Sophomore guard Hunter Calloway had 12 points, and senior forward Jaxon Hofer finished with 10 points.
Junior forward Laki Fagaautau added nine points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

The Bayhawks struggled to make shots, and connected on just 13 total shots from the field as the Cougars lived outside the arc and connected on 13 deep balls as they grabbed the road win.
Seniors Gabe VanHofwegen and Harmon Weinkers, as well as sophomore Calvin VanHofwegen, scored six points each to lead Bellingham.
Junior forward Joe Harward and senior forward Kincade VanHouten each grabbed six rebounds, and Calvin VanHofwegen dished out a team-high three assists.
