When Pioneer senior guard Caden Heutink cut to the basket, senior center Brady Ackerman hit him with a pinpoint pass which led to an easy layup with 13 seconds left in the game.
The bucket gave Nooksack Valley a two-point lead, and the Mariners needed to answer.
Sehome’s jumper was off target at the buzzer, and the Pioneers were able to capture the conference win on the road.
Heutink topped all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Junior guard Cole Coppinger had 13 points, and senior guard Cory Olney added 11 points.
Sehome junior forward Xavier Kelley was 7-of-14 from the field and led his team with 17 points, while junior center Cole Turrell finished with 13 points and a team-high seven assists.
Sophomore forward Bane Mitchell came off the bench to snare eight rebounds.

The Bayhawks flew out to a 24-9 leader after one quarter of play, and kept strong the rest of the game to pick up the home win.
Junior forward Joe Harward had 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting, and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the way for Bellingham.
Senior forward Kincade VanHouten added 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while also totaling six rebounds and five assists.
Senior guard Harmon Wienkers buried five of his 10 three-point attempts for 15 points, and junior point guard Myllo Wright led his team with six assists and three steals.
