The Lions climbed to a 12-4 lead early and kept a slight advantage throughout the remainder of the first half. They finished the half on a 12-2 run and took an 8-point lead heading into the locker room.

Heppner

Senior forward Brant Heppner greeted the second half crowd with a dunk to start the third quarter, which lit a fire within the Lynden offense.

Junior guard Spencer Adams then knocked down back-to-back shots from beyond the arc, triggering an air raid of threes amongst his teammates. The Lions collected 27 points over the course of the third quarter, and took a 20-point lead.

Heppner led Lynden with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The frontline duo of senior Jack Stapleton and junior Ty Jorgenson scored 11 points each, with Jorgenson also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

Adams finished with 10 points and four assists.

The Lions will now advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2A state tournament at the Yakima SunDome and will play on Thursday morning at 10:30 against the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Prosser and Foster.

The Lyncs knocked down 10 shots from three-point land, and played tough perimeter defense, which enabled the victory in the regional round of the 1A state tournament.

VanKooten

Senior forward Luke VanKooten posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. When you also throw in that he blocked three shots and buried 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, it’s apparent that he played perhaps the best game of his varsity career, and it was a good time for it.

Senior guard Gannon Dykstra also played extremely well despite not being 100%, as he shot 8-for-15 from the field for a team-high 23 points. He also collected six rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Dawson Hintz added 19 points which included a trio of three-pointers as well as a slam dunk in traffic, and senior guard Carter Ahlers led with seven assists while junior forward Boyce Robertson and sophomore forward Kaden Veldman pulled down seven boards each.

Lynden Christian now moves into the quarterfinal round of the 1A state tournament at the Yakima SunDome and will play on Thursday at 7:15 against the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between King’s and Bellevue Christian.
