The Pioneers headed south to take on the defending 2A state champions with an average of nearly 11 runs per game, but the Cubs (who are now 3A) played their “A” game by blanking Nooksack Valley. Shelby Mason singled in the first inning, Grace DeHoog walked in the second, and every other Pioneer batter struck out against phenom pitcher Kasandra Gonzalez.
