Sophomore Taya VanderKooi led off the bottom of the first inning by crushing a homerun to left-center field which tied the game at 1-1. The Roughriders came back to score twice more in the top of the second inning, and the Lyncs scored again in the third and the fifth, but Port Angeles brought three runners home in the sixth to extend its lead and ultimately take the win. Senior pitcher Kassidy VanSoest struck out five batters in six innings of work.

Seven walks and four errors helped the Roughriders score their 10 runs against the Lions who dropped their opener. Senior left fielder Kaiah Tull was hit by a pitch in the first inning, and junior second baseman Campbell DeJong singled in the fourth for Lynden’s only base runners. Sophomore pitcher Callie Ramerman struck out seven batters over five innings.

The lone run for the Lions came in the bottom of the fifth inning when center fielder Kasey DeJong scored on a passed ball after reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Campbell DeJong had both of Lynden’s hits, and senior shortstop Melanie Anderson walked twice.

With it being 32 degrees at game time, with a strong breeze, pitching was a struggle early on for both teams as 15 combined runs took place in the first inning alone. First baseman Harjas Grewal led the Storm with two hits and two stolen bases, and center fielder Addy Hauber doubled. Shortstop Laela Staniford reached base twice, stole two bases and scored twice, and Squalicum got RBI’s from Hauber, Grewal and left fielder Carmen Rodriguez.

Hockinson 18, Sehome 7
The Mariners led 6-1 after two strong innings, but the Hawks scored 17 runs over the next three innings to grab the road win. Junior pitcher Sarah Kruzich doubles, tripled and knocked in three runs to lead the Sehome offense. She also struck out 10 batters in her five innings of work in the circle. Third baseman Lea Lamositele had a single and a double, and knocked in two runs, and senior shortstop Rebekah Peterson scored twice for the Mariners.
