The Pioneers are back in a familiar place, but a lot of the players are new, as Nooksack Valley kept its season alive by defeating the Trojans.

It was an incredibly strong first half for the Pioneers, who outscored the Trojans 32-15 at the midway break, and did it with great ball movement, tough defense and clutch free throw shooting.
It also helped that sophomore forward Raegan Burke hit a deep three-pointer at the buzzer just before halftime.
Sophomore guard Peyton Duque also had a big night, as she and Burke each finished with career-highs in points, with nine and five, respectively, on the night that it was needed most.
Junior guard Payton Bartl led Nooksack Valley with 23 points, which tied a season-high for her, and she did most of her damage at the foul line by hitting 13 of her 17 attempts.
Junior center Grace DeHoog controlled the paint with 12 points and 18 rebounds, and senior forward Kate Shintaffer added 11 points with a strong mid-range game.

The Trojans had a rough time shooting from the outside, but started to hit in the second half, and freshman Melanie Short was the main catalyst as she scored all 14 of her team’s points in the third quarter.
Short finished with 17 points, and she was followed by sophomore forward Eden Bernardy who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
It was the final game for senior point guard Brooklyn Fuller who led the Trojans with five assists, as well as forward Sofia Brooks who shook off an early game injury to come back and score four points.
The Pioneers will play at King’s High School on Saturday morning at 11:00 against an unknown opponent, where the winner will advance to regionals.

Lummi Nation 58, Summit Classical Christian 15
All season, the Blackhawks have been dominant on defense, and it was no different on Tuesday night when they hosted the Archers in the Tri-District Tournament.

It was a near carbon copy of most of the games this season as their pressure defense led to easy buckets and they held their opponent to single-digit scoring in each quarter of play.
Sophomore point guard Jemma James scored 15 points to lead Lummi Nation, and she was joined in double figures by junior guard Brianna Metteba who had 11 points and junior guard Kashlyn Mack who finished with 10 points.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Blackhawks as they will now face Crosspoint Christian at 5:45 at Mount Vernon Christian High School. Lummi Nation won an earlier matchup in the year against the Wildcats when Metteba hit a left-handed runner from behind the three-point line as time expired.
