The Lady Lions grabbed ahold of the momentum early. Sophomore guard Finley Parcher scored six quick points in the first quarter, leading Lynden on a 12-0 run. The Lions then turned a nine-point lead into twenty-four points, piling 29 points onto their total during the second quarter.

Mills

During the second half, it was more of the same. The Lions collected seven unanswered points to start the half and held a thirty-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Despite having their lowest scoring numbers in the fourth, Lynden hung on to the lead and ended the game with a 32-point difference in the scoring.

Parcher shot 9-for-14 and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists, all of which led the Lions.

Sophomore point guard Lexi Hermanutz was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and scored 11 points, and junior forward Payton Mills added 13 points and four boards.

Late in the first half Mills hit a three-pointer, which catapulted her over 1,000 career points.

With the win, Lynden will now continue in the 2A state tournament at 5:30 on Thursday at the Yakima SunDome against the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Port Angeles and Columbia River.

The Lyncs were down by 16 points with a little over six minutes to go, but a barrage of deep balls, coupled with strong defensive rebounding, allowed Lynden Christian to work its way back and pull out the victory against the Rangers.

Freshman guard Tyra Dykstra knocked down three-pointer after three-pointer over a four-minute span to help get the Lyncs within six points points, and a deep ball from senior guard Danya Dykstra brought the Lyncs within three points.

After some stellar defensive plays, which included a block from Danya Dykstra and defensive rebounds from senior forward Allison Shumate, it was Tyra Dykstra again from the corner who hit her fourth three-pointer of the quarter to tie the game at 52-52 with just over two minutes to go in the game.

Following another defensive stop, the Lyncs then took the lead on a corner three-ball from junior guard Estela Hernandez, which concluded a 22-3 run in the fourth quarter. The Lyncs held on to win the game as Tyra Dykstra led Lynden Christian with 19 points, which included hit five of her eight three-point attempts.

Shumate and Danya Dykstra were instrumental in the fourth quarter as the pair of six-foot seniors were playing the majority of the final period with four fouls, but were able to stay on the floor for the rest of the game. Danya Dykstra finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, and Shumate had a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.

Junior guard Ella Fritts led LC with six assists, and Tyra Dykstra closely followed with five.

The full court pressure of Naches Valley early on created multiple turnovers for Lynden Christian, and the Rangers led 24-13 after the first quarter, and were ahead by as many as 17 points in the third quarter.

With the win, the Lyncs moved straight into a Thursday morning 10:30 matchup in the 1A state tournament at the Yakima SunDome against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Montesano and Cashmere.

With the Pioneers drawing the nine-seed, a win was needed for a return trip to the Yakima SunDome, and a win is what they received.

Bartl

Junior guard Payton Bartl got off to an electric start by scoring 15 points in the first quarter alone, which included knocking down four 3-pointers, and Nooksack Valley was up 20-8 going into the second quarter.

The Grizzlies started to catch fire in the second quarter and made it a three-point game at the half, but proper adjustments were made at halftime, and the Pioneers outscored Hoquiam 34-15 in the second half.

Bartl finished with a career-high 25 points, and hit 5-of-6 from downtown.

Junior center Grace DeHoog added 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, four blocked shots and two steals. She also knocked down a trio of three-pointers, and she came into the game with three deep balls converted on the season.

Junior guard Chayleigh Davis distributed well all game and finished with a team-high nine assists to go with her eight points scored, and senior forward Kate Shintaffer knifed through the opposition to grab 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers will take on Naches Valley in the 1A state tournament at the Yakima SunDome on Wednesday at 2:00.
