SEDRO WOOLLEY – It was a 33-point lead after one quarter, and a 54-7 final score, as the Mountaineers took it to South Whidbey in a district playoff game at Sedro Woolley High School on Friday night.

For most of the season, the overall talent of the junior class has been widely seen, and appreciated by the faithful fans of Deming. And, although not a large group, the seniors let it be known that this was their team in this game.

Lee

Senior running back Jason Lee scored a career-high four touchdowns in the game, and three of them came on the ground. He also finished with a game-high 101 rushing yards on just seven attempts. Fellow senior Mark Tikhonov intercepted two passes in the first quarter alone, and returned the second one 45 yards for a touchdown. And, senior tight end Waylon Kentner led the team in receiving with four receptions for 89 yards.

Lee’s big game put him into 13th on the school’s all-time rushing list with 1845 yards.

Tikhonov

Junior fullback Toby Jefferson scored on a 13-yard run in the first quarter, and finished with 86 yards on eight carries. He also had an impressive quarterback sack on defense, and junior Mason Jacoby completed 10-of-13 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. He also intercepted a pass on defense, and fellow junior defensive tackle Phil Paez used his extreme quickness to sack the quarterback twice.

Even with the running clock in the second half, the Mountaineer reserves got some time under the Friday night lights. Coach Ron Lepper’s cupboard won’t be bare for the foreseeable future as sophomore Jesse Sande gobbled up 96 yards and a touchdown on just six carries, and freshman Wilhelm Maloley scored a rushing touchdown and recovered a fumble on defense… which was caused by Sande.

The victory was Coach Lepper’s 180th of his career.

Now we all wait until Sunday afternoon when the seeding committee releases the matchups and locations.

  1. I am glad to have found this site. I have not been to a football game since my kidney trasplant. Scorestream is not reliable.

  2. Tyler,
Can you explain the logic that puts LC #7 and MB #5 in the context of recent AP & Max Preps rankings and schedule strength? Thanks.
