Junior lefty Griffin King gets ready to throw his first pitch in relief.

Lynden 11, Pullman 1

Doolittle
Marsh

The Lions opened up their season with a tremendous offensive output. Seniors James Marsh and Jack Doolittle showed their muscle when both players hit home runs. That comes as no surprise to me, as I saw them both clear the fences multiple times at batting practice last week. Marsh also was sharp on the mound, as he gave up just six hits and one run over five innings. He also struck out three batters, and didn’t walk anyone. Senior second baseman Ben Libolt totaled three hits, and senior first baseman Preston King picked up a pair of hits.

W: Marsh (1-0)

LYN: Kleindel 1-4, R; Libolt 3-4, 2 R, SB; Marsh 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB; Doolittle 2-3, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB; King 2-3, R, RBI, BB; White 1-3, R, RBI, BB; Human 1-3.

Lynden Christian 2, Coupeville 1

Johnson
Mark

When sophomore Preston Mark singled in junior Zach Sipma in the second inning, it tied the game, and when Mark stole second base it allowed junior Jake Terpstra to score. That ended being all that the Lyncs needed. Of course, that would be all when you pitch as well as sophomore Luke Johnson pitched. Johnson, who was the relief specialist last season, threw a whale of a game. He struck out nine batters, while allowing just four hits over six innings. The one run he allowed in the first inning was unearned. This should come as no surprise as his father Darren was an LC great in the 80’s and eventually pitched in college. Sophomore Shale Whittern pitched a perfect seventh inning to pick up the save. Lynden Christian (2-2) faced Granite Falls earlier today.

W: Johnson (2-0)

S: Whittern (1)

LC: Dykstra 1-3; Mark 1-2, RBI, 2 SB.

Archbishop Murphy 9, Blaine 5

Abshere
R. Turnberg

The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, and was up 5-2 after three innings. The Borderites tried to claw back, but a rough defensive game (six errors) ended up dooming the border-town athletes. Senior standout Chase Abshere played catcher for the first time this season, and was 3-for-4 at the plate. Senior right fielder Ryan Turnberg went to 2-for-3 to help pace the Borderites. Senior Colby Knutzen pitched well, and last five innings. The hard throwing righty struck out five and allowed three earned runs. Blaine (2-1) will travel to Sedro-Woolley (2-0) to take on the Cubs this Tuesday.

L: Knutzen (0-1)

BLA: Abshere 3-4, R, SB; Dohner 1-4, R; Wallen 1-3, BB; King RBI, BB, 2 R; R. Turnberg 2-3, Gunderson 1-3, RBI.

W.F. West 12, Lynden 2

Parcher

It was a rough game number two for Lynden. Preston King pitched well, and threw strikes (66.2% strikes), but the W.F. West bats were just too much. Doolittle and King scored the runs for the Lions, and senior catcher Carter Parcher was able to reach base twice. Lynden (1-1) played Ellensburg today, and will begin league play when they host Squalicum (1-4) on Friday.

L: King (0-1)

LYN: Doolittle 1-3, R; Parcher, 1-1, BB.
