Meridian's Josh Neeter describes his game-winning run on The Doug Lange Network

Meridian 8, Squalicum 7

Brooks
Boysen

When senior outfielder Josh Neeter of the Trojans led off the bottom of the eighth he was hoping for a better outcome than the previous three strikeouts. A perfectly placed bunt allowed him to reach base. He than stole second base, just getting under the tag, which prompted Squalicum to intentionally walk Art Madrigal. Brayden Zender’s follow-up sacrifice bunt worked to perfection, allowing the winning run in Neeter to reach third base, but the throw ricocheted off of the third baseman’s glove, and an alert Neeter bolted for home as he slid in for the win. The beginning of the game had a lot of scoring, with both teams scoring in each of the first innings, but small-ball by both teams produced a great baseball game from both Meridian and the Storm. The Trojans got two hits from junior Ryan Johnson, sophomore Ethan Brooks and freshman Bryce Johnson. Squalicum senior shortstop Josh Boysen picked up two hits for his team. Meridian (7-8) will travel to Blaine (9-4) to take on the Borderites on Wednesday, and the Storm (5-11) will play host to Nooksack Valley (3-12) on Wednesday.

Burlington-Edison 6, Lynden 2

Marsh
Holmstrom

In a battle of traditional Northwest Conference powers it was the Tigers that topped the Lions. One of the best rivalries of northwest Washington in all sports, it was Lynden senior Preston King who intercepted a pass to seal the victory against Burlington-Edison last fall, but the Tigers were able to get to the right-hander hurler back on Monday. Timely hitting and a few errors caused a big fifth inning for Burlington-Edison. The Lions were able to get base hits from Ben Libolt, James Marsh, Devin Holmstrom and Connor White. Lynden (9-4) will travel to Nooksack Valley (3-12) today to take on the Pioneers.

L: King (4-2)

LYN: Libolt 1-4, R; Marsh 1-3, R, BB; Holmstrom 1-3, RBI; White 1-2, BB.

Sedro Woolley 11, Ferndale 4

Ebe
Sandstrom

The Cub offense was too much too overcome against the Golden Eagles on Monday. Sedro-Woolley remained atop the Northwest Conference with its big win. Senior shortstop Bryan Ebe, who has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Lower Columbia College next season, went 2-for-3 at the plate for Ferndale. He also had a run batted in, a stolen base and he was hit by a pitch twice. That now makes a county-high 10 on the season. Sophomores Carson Peters and Kobe Sandstrom each scored two runs for Ferndale. The Golden Eagles (9-6) will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Burlington-Edison (10-3).

L: Hatchett (3-1)
