Sehome Splits Double Header

Sehome 6, Stanwood 0 (Game 1)

Kaepernick

Sophomore southpaw Jacob Kaepernick threw six shut-out innings, while giving up just two hits and one walk. Senior Trevor Seaholm closed the game out for the Mariners. Seaholm also batted leadoff, and he and fellow senior Mel Ketteridge each scored a pair of runs. Senior catcher Lukas DeLisle led his team with three runs batted in.

Stanwood 6, Sehome 3 (Game 2)

Knudtson

The Spartans got the Mariners back in game two after getting ahead early and never relinquishing the lead. Sehome threw three pitchers, Lane Middendorf, Tyler Reynolds and Ethan Brown, at Stanwood and each one lasted exactly two and one thirds of an inning. Brown pitched well, striking out three without walking anyone. Senior Christian Knudtson had a pinch-hit RBI, with Seaholm and Ketteridge each picking up RBI’s. In true Sehome fashion, the Mariners went errorless in both games, quite a feat this early in the season.

Seattle Christian 8, Nooksack Valley 0 (Game 1)

Zylstra

The Pioneers gave up five runs in the first inning, and were only to manage one hit against Seattle Christian. Junior Easton Zylstra took the loss, but was able to get on base twice during the game, walking both times. Trey Eshuis also reached base twice, and picked up the only Pioneer base hit.

Bellevue Christian 13, Nooksack Valley 3 (Game 2)

It was a rough second game for the Pioneers as well, but there was a bright spot for the boys in purple when they scored three runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore Jeff Boykin hit a two-run triple that scored Zylstra and senior Devin Lackey. Boykin went on to score the third run of the inning. Control was the main issue for the Nooksack Valley pitchers, combining for 12 walks. Freshman Collin Averill took the loss.

Friday Harbor 9, Lynden Christian 8

Whittern

Lynden Christian took the lead in the fifth inning but it wasn’t able to hold on, and the Wolverines scored in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. The Lyncs looked good offensively with sophomore Shale Whittern and senior Damyn Dykstra each going 3-for-4 in the game. Whittern finished with a team-high three runs batted in. Sophomores Luke Johnson and Cole Moorlag each scored a pair of runs. Senior Zach Sipma took the loss for the Lyncs.

Orcas Island 7, Mount Baker 6

Blow

The Mountaineers scored five runs in the first inning, but were down 6-5 after the second inning. Good pitching and defense held throughout, and Orcas Island was able to hold on for the win. Senior second baseman Leif Blow led the Mounties offensively. He went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Ty Rosenburg and Marques Brown each had RBI doubles, and sophomore Andrew Stalnaker took the loss for Mount Baker.
