Mount Baker 7, Ferndale 6

Stalnaker
Blow

Even when the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the top of the third inning, the Mountaineers didn’t lose their composure. Instead, they scored at least a run in every inning following that which culminated in the bottom of the sixth inning when senior Leif Blow singled to left field, which scored freshman Lucas Figueroa to tie the game. Sophomore Andrew Stalnaker followed that up by smacking a double to left field to score senior Ty Rosenburg to take the lead. Sophomore Marques Brown got his first varsity win in relief and senior Kaleb Bass continued his hot hitting with a triple and three runs batted in. Mount Baker (4-8) will travel to Bellingham (1-10) on Tuesday to take on the Red Raiders at Joe Martin Field. Ferndale (7-4) will host Lynden Christian (4-8) on Tuesday.

Sehome 11, Bellingham 1

Frere
Ketteridge

The Mariners were simply too much for the Red Raiders when the two rival city schools met at 10:00 on Tuesday morning. Senior pitcher Makana Grondin threw 40 pitches in three innings and fellow senior Tyler Reynolds finished the job in a five inning shortened game. Sophomore second baseman Brooks Frere had his best game of the season going 2-for-2 with two triples, and he scored two runs. Sehome also got triples from Jacob Kaepernick, Mel Ketteridge and Graham Glendening. Trevor Seaholm scored a game-high three runs, and Christian Knudtson and Ketteridge each scored twice. Sehome (6-6) will take on Squalicum (4-8) at Joe Martin Field on Tuesday night, and Bellingham (1-10) will host Mount Baker (4-8) in game one of that double header.

Blaine 6, Squalicum 3

Abshere
Wallen

Entering the game, Squalicum’s Mitchell Sage had only walked two batters in 19 innings of work. On Tuesday, he uncharacteristically walked five batters in just over four innings of work. Blaine continued its hot streak, and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good against the Storm. Chase Abshere showed why he’s one of the top hitters in the league, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. The free swinging senior also walked for the first time this season. Ben Wallen also picked up a pair of hits, bringing his average up to .500. Junior lefty Tyler Haggith picked up the win in relief. The Borderites (7-3) will host Lakewood (4-7) on Tuesday, and the Storm (4-8) will host Sehome (6-6) on Tuesday evening.

Lynden 14, Lynden Christian 1

Libolt
Holmstrom

If you left before the final inning, you wouldn’t believe the score. But, it was a close game throughout… why would you have left? Lynden scored in the first two innings, and LC scored a run in the fifth inning, but it was the 12-run top of the seventh that really blew the door off. Lion seniors Ben Libolt, Carter Parcher and Devin Holmstrom all knocked in three runs, while every player in the Lynden lineup reached base. Senior shortstop Brendan Kleindel scored a game-high three runs, now giving him a Whatcom County-high 18 on the season. Lync sophomores Cole Moorlag and Preston Mark enjoyed big days at the plate, as each of them registered a pair of hits. Lynden (7-3) will host Meridian (4-5) on Tuesday, while Lynden Christian (4-8) will travel to Ferndale (7-4) on Tuesday to take on the Golden Eagles.

Anacortes 2, Meridian 0

Brooks

Sophomore infielder Ethan Brooks got a pair of hits, but the dominance of pitcher Ty Saunders was just too much for the Trojans. Saunders struck out 14 batters in his complete game 4-hit shutout. Juniors Art Madrigal and Ryan Johnson also picked up hits for Meridian. Senior Dylan Hickok pitched well, going six innings and striking out six, but nobody was going to out-throw Saunders on Tuesday. The Trojans (4-5) will travel during the break to take on Brewster (6-0) today, and Cascade (2-3) tomorrow.

L: Hickok

MER: Madrigal 1-3, HBP; R. Johnson 1-3, Brooks 2-3.

Burlington-Edison 25, Nooksack Valley 2

Zylstra

The Pioneers scored two in the first inning, but that would be it as the Tigers poured it on in the Valley. 25 runs on 17 hits for Burlington-Edison, and Nooksack Valley didn’t make things easier by committing five errors, walking eight batters and hitting three more. Junior Easton Zylstra had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3. Jacob Roosma and Koert Weidkamp each also picked up a base hit. Nooksack Valley (2-10) will try to bounce back on Tuesday when it travels to Anacortes (6-6) to take on the Seahawks.

L: Averill (2-2)

NV: Zylstra 2-3; Roosma 1-2, RBI; Weidkamp 1-2.
