The Sehome coaching staff discusses what went right in the Mariners' 16-2 victory.

Sehome 16, Bellingham 2

Reynolds
Payne

The Red Raiders were down 11-0 before grabbing a bat, and comeback looked slim. The Sehome bats came alive with seniors Makana Grondin and Patrick Miksovsky, and sophomore Tim Malo each getting a pair of hits. Jacob Kaepernick started on the mound, and it was an efficient tune-up start for him, as it was predesignated that he would only go two innings. In his 29 pitches he threw 20 strikes, and his only mistake was a towering home run that he gave up to Bellingham superstar shortstop Kyle Payne in the bottom of the first. Tyler Reynolds pitched the final three innings in relief, and he did a fantastic job, helping his chances to earn a spot in the Sehome rotation. The Red Raiders (0-4) travel to Lakewood (1-2) today to take on the Cougars, and the Mariners (2-4) host Meridian (2-0) tonight.

Squalicum 8, Lynden Christian 3

Rice
Williams

It was the biggest offensive explosion of the young season for the Storm, and it was helped by the pinpoint pitching by Keenan Rice. The senior right-hander struck out five in five innings, and he didn’t allow an earned run, nor did he walk a single batter. Seniors Tate Carlson and August Williams both went 2-for-4 at the plate, and they each scored a run, knocked in a run and stole a base to help lead the offensive attack for Squalicum. Sophomore Cole Moorlag pitched well for the Lyncs, but he was hindered by a few errors behind him. Moorlag also picked up a pair of hits for Lynden Christian. The Storm (2-4) travels to Lynden (2-1) on Friday to open up league play, and the Lyncs (3-3) will host Nooksack Valley (2-4) on Friday.

Mount Vernon 9, Ferndale 1

Peters

The Golden Eagle non-league schedule hasn’t let up, and facing 4A power Mount Vernon was a rough one. The Bulldogs got ahead early, and were able to shut down the Ferndale batters. Sophomore Kobe Sandstrom scored junior Michael Bernard on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to put the only run on the board for the Golden Eagles. Carson Peters led his team offensively with two hits and a stolen base, and Bernard also picked up a hit. Senior shortstop Bryan Ebe hit a double for Ferndale. The Golden Eagles (2-1) will host Oak Harbor (1-1) today.

L: Westford (1-1)

FERN: Bernard 1-3, R; Ebe 1-3, 2B; Peters 2-3, SB.

Sedro Woolley 1, Blaine 0

Haggith
Gunderson

A sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning was all it took for the Cubs to defeat the Borderites, and it was enough to spoil another wonderful pitching performance from junior Tyler Haggith. The lefty pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just two hits, and the previously mentioned run. He also struck out five batters. Junior Tobin Akre got the final two outs of the sixth inning for Blaine. Preston King and Nick Gunderson were each able to read third base, but that would be as close as the Borderites would get to scoring. Senior Nick Gunderson had a pair of hits for Blaine. The Borderites (2-2) host Nooksack Valley (2-4) today at 4:30, and the game can be heard on The Doug Lange Network.

L: Haggith (1-1)
