A five-run third inning catapulted the Trojans into a large lead, and junior pitcher Ryan Johnson did the rest. In six innings he allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out four. Sophomore Andrew Kuljis closed the game out. Offensively, it was right fielder Brayden Zender and first baseman Elijah Guzman that each had a pair of hits. Guzman blasted a double that highlighted the big third inning for Meridian. Freshman catcher Bryce Johnson also reached base every time with three walks and a double. The Pioneers got hits from Devin Lackey, Evan Neitling, Easton Zylstra and Collin Averill. The Trojans (3-2) will host Sedro Woolley (7-1) on Thursday, and Nooksack Valley (2-7) will travel to Lakewood (3-4) to take on the Cougars.

6-foot-5 junior lefty Geirean Hatchett is an intimidating presence. Both on the mound and in the batter’s box. He was one out away from pitching a complete game, and struck out 10 Storm batters. He also knocked in four runs, with a single and a double. Carson Peters, Kobe Sandstrom, Brett Westford and Colby Tegt each scored two runs for the Golden Eagles. Squalicum senior short stop Josh Boysen belted a grand slam in the seventh inning to excite the Storm fans, and he finished with a game-high 5 RBI’s. August Williams scored twice for Squalicum, and Mitchell Sage hit a double. Ferndale (5-2) travels to Blaine (4-3) to take on the Borderites on Thursday, and the Storm (2-7) will host Bellingham (1-7).

Lion senior pitcher Preston King locked the potent Borderite offense down with a complete game shut out while striking out six batters. Senior catcher Carter Parcher had a pair of hits, scored a run and knocked in a run, and fellow senior Jack Doolittle kept his bat hot with a pair of hits including a double. Senior shortstop Brendan Kleindel stole three bases along with a thrilling steal of home. Blaine senior Ben Wallen collected two hits. Lynden (5-1) will try to stay unbeaten within the conference on Thursday when it travels to Sehome (4-5) to take on the Mariners. The Borderites (4-3) is hosting Ferndale (5-2) in what should be a great battle.

The offensive juggernaut that was the Mountaineers from early last week was shut out for the second game in a row. Senior designated hitter Ty Rosenburg hit a double in the fifth inning, and fellow seniors Michael Kentner and Carter Backstrom had singles in the fourth inning. Senior Isaac Gomes went the distance on the mound for Mount Baker, and he struck out two batters. The Mountaineers (3-6) will try to get the offense going again on Thursday when they host Anacortes (3-5).

Anacortes 3, Sehome 2
The Mariners scored in the final two innings of the game, but it just wasn’t enough to beat the Seahawks. Senior Makana Grondin, coming off his no-hitter from last week, pitched tremendously in the first four innings, but Anacortes got to him in the fifth. Seniors Michael McLin and Lukas DeLisle picked up RBI’s for Sehome, with Mel Ketteridge and Tim Malo scoring runs. Sehome (4-5) will be under the lights at home on Thursday night when Lynden (5-1) comes to town.

Sedro Woolley 7, Lynden Christian 4
The Cubs broke out to an early lead, 4-1 after the first inning, but the Lyncs scored three in the top of third when sophomore shortstop Cole Moorlag lined a full-count single to right field and scored speedy Brevin Zylstra. Sophomore Shale Whittern followed up with a double to score Moorlag. Whittern then took third base on a passed ball, and scored when Zach Sipma grounded out to tie the game. It was the final run the LC would score, and Sedro put three more on the board. Whittern upped his Whatcom County leading batting average. Lynden Christian (4-5) will host the tough Tigers of Burlington-Edison (4-2) on Thursday.

Lakewood 10, Bellingham 0
The Red Raiders just couldn’t get the bats going, collecting just two hits, as the Cougars took it to them on Tuesday. Seniors Nathan Pursley and Nick Posey got hits for Bellingham, and Pursley stole a base. Senior Shane Davis started on the mound, and he threw strikes (66%), but the Lakewood bats were hot. Davis did not walk a batter in four innings of work. The Red Raiders (1-7) will face Squalicum (2-7) at Joe Martin Field on Thursday.
