Senior Ben Wallen was on top of his game for the Borderites in their final tune-up before conference play. He picked up his second win of the season by completing the shortened five inning game, and giving up just two hits and two runs while striking out six and walking none. His ERA is now at 0.64. Senior left fielder Chase Abshere continued his hot hitting by crushing a double and a triple, he also scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs. Junior right fielder Griffin King was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and he scored two runs. Pioneer senior Jacob Roosma took the loss, but it wasn’t all on him. His defense had a rough day at the border city. Roosma also hit a double in the game while freshman second baseman Dawson Kimball hit a two-run single in the top of the second inning. The Borderites (3-2) open up conference play today against Anacortes (2-4) and Nooksack Valley (2-5) will travel to Lynden Christian (3-3) today to take on the Lyncs.

After being down 1-0 after the first inning, the Golden Eagles scored runs in the next four innings to break out into a comfortable lead before beating Oak Harbor 7-2. Junior lefty Geirean Hatchett went six strong innings, and gave up just three hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Senior Bryan Ebe and sophomores Carson Peters and Aidan Roddel each had a pair of hits. Roddel also knocked in a team-high three runs. Senior Ryan Whipkey hit a double and junior Michael Bernard legged out a triple. Sophomore pitcher Slater Whitaker closed the game out for Ferndale. The Golden Eagles (3-1) begin conference play today when they travel to Bellingham to take on the Red Raiders (1-4) at Joe Martin Field.

Sun’s out – guns out. Following a 13-run performance on Monday in the heat, the Mountaineers kept the throttle down and scored 20 on Wednesday. Freshman catcher Davin Beason went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in, and seniors Kaleb Bass and Leif Blow each had three hits and three RBI’s. Bass also looked good on the mound, striking out five in two innings of work, while 71% of his pitches were thrown for strikes. Sophomore Andrew Stalnaker picked up his first varsity win, and he pitched a perfect two innings in relief also striking out five. Seniors Isaac Gomes, Michael Kentner, Jaxon Weathers, Ty Rosenburg and Carter Backstrom all scored two runs, and sophomore leadoff hitter Toby Jefferson reached base five times, and scored four times. Mount Baker (3-4) will hope for more sunny weather today when it opens up league play against Sedro Woolley (4-1).
