SULTAN – The Turks scored two touchdowns early, and never looked back, as Sultan defeated Bellingham 28-6 on Friday night.

The Turks used a strong running game to charge down the field on their opening drive, but it was a 15-yard pass that got them into the end zone.

Cousens

An errant snap on the first play from scrimmage for Bellingham doomed the Bayhawks, and Sultan recovered a fumble in the end zone, and the Turks were up 14-0 before Bellingham had gained a yard on offense.

Both teams played even for the next two quarters, as a Bellingham moved the ball well on quick passes and a tough running attack.

Sophomore quarterback Gabriel VanHofwegen completed 17-of-30 passes for 188 yards, and senior slot receiver Lucas Cousens was the recipient of a lot of those passes, hauling in eight for 121 yards.

Steeves

The Turks scored twice more in the fourth quarter. Once on a short run of four yards, and again on a dazzling 58-yard sprint up the middle.

Senior running back Logan Steeves led the Bayhawks’ ground attack with 68 yards on 17 carries. He also scored the final touchdown of the contest. He also led defensively with 8.5 tackles.

Senior outside linebacker Liam Poulton-Claypool and junior inside linebacker Ruarc O’Malley combined for five tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The Bayhawks finished their season with a 3-7 record.
