FRIDAY HARBOR – The Bayhawks played their first game outside of Whatcom County, and picked up their second victory as they defeated Friday Harbor 22-9 on Friday night.

The Wolverines began the game with a strong 16-play 71-yard drive, but a strong Bellingham goal line stand ended Friday Harbor’s scoring chances at the 2-yard line. The Wolverines would get on the scoreboard first, however, when the Bayhawks lined up for a punt four plays later, and the center snap went over the punter’s head, and through the end zone for a Friday Harbor safety.

Twedt

Bellingham took the lead in the second quarter when senior running back Finn O’Malley scored his first varsity touchdown from four yards out. It was set up by a deep 70-yard pass from Max Rasset to Johnny Twedt.

Twedt led his team with 108 yards from scrimmage.

The Bayhawks quickly scored their second touchdown of the game on a 3-yard blast from senior running back Alex Breeding. Bellingham’s touchdown was set up after Nathaniel Gass and Reymundo Alvarado combined to block a Wolverine punt, which gave the Bayhawks tremendous field position.

Friday Harbor scored its only touchdown of the game on a 44-yard play-action pass in the second quarter. The Wolverines were threatening to score again just before halftime, but an interception by senior linebacker Daniel Reyes ended any thoughts of that happening.

Bates

Reyes also led his team with 13 tackles, while O’Malley notched 12 tackles and Gass had three tackles for loss.

After a scoreless third quarter, Rasset found wide receiver Isaac Bates on a slant pattern, and the two juniors combined for an 11-yard touchdown pass. The scoring drive was lifted by a 29-yard completion down the right sideline from Breeding to Twedt on a razzle-dazzle halfback pass.

The Bayhawks (2-4) will host Cedarcrest (0-7) on Friday at 8:00.
