BELLINGHAM – Morgan Cavalier and his teammates deserved better. They played their hearts out, but narrowly lost to Cedarcrest 22-18 at Civic Field Stadium on Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Raiders got on the board first when Cavalier and fellow senior Cody Tolle had a little role-reversal as this time it was Tolle on the receiving end of a deep pass for a touchdown.
The Red Wolves scored a touchdown with 15 seconds to go until halftime, and the extra point put them ahead 7-6. It didn’t last long when the following kickoff was scooped up by Cavalier at the 17-yard line. He cut up field, quickly motored to the right sideline and Andre Triplett threw a perfect block that opened the alley for Cavalier to score just before halftime.
The momentum leading into the second half was pretty strong as Cavalier scored on a 67-yard sprint down the left sideline to give Bellingham the 18-7 lead.
The Red Wolves scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and their ball-control offense limited Bellingham’s chances.
Triplett had another great game punting, averaging 43.3 yards per boot, and he also intercepted a pair of passes. Linebacker Juan Alten also intercepted a pass and Jackson Taylor had 2.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
The Red Raiders (1-3) will try to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they host Evergreen (2-2).
