FERNDALE – Already leading Whatcom County in long touchdowns, the Golden Eagle offense exploded once again in the first half and defeated Shorecrest 38-13 on Friday night.

J. Broselle

Senior Jacob Broselle had another amazing game running sweeps, drives and counters behind senior guard Geirean Hatchett in what was the final home game of their brilliant careers. Broselle finished with a game-high 194 yards on 14 carries, and Hatchett ended up with more pancakes than I’ve eaten in the 21st century.

Broselle scored his first touchdown of the game when he cut upfield, and outran the entire Scot defense 78 yards to the end zone in the first quarter. He also scored on a 2-yard dive play and a 4th-down double handoff counter from 29 yards away in the second quarter.

Sophomore fullback Ryan Pelton ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run, and freshman half back Isaiah Carlson caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from junior Haiden Rasmussen, and the Golden Eagles led 35-7 at half time. Pelton also hit the century mark on the ground with 103 yards on just eight carries.

Hatchett

The Ferndale defense put pressure on Shorecrest’s quarterback all game, and was able to sack him eight times, with Hatchett, defensive end Malachi Ledbetter and middle linebacker Kobe Sandstrom getting in on most of them.

Senior defensive back Michael Bernard also continued his fantastic season on defense, and was able to sniff out three separate quick passes and made tackles behind the line of scrimmage on all of them.

Junior left-footed kicker James Werth booted a 29-yard field goal from the right hash to finish out the scoring for the Golden Eagles. The Scots scored their final touchdown late in the contest, and their 13 total points was their lowest output of the season.

Ferndale (5-4) will now travel to O’Dea (9-0) to take on the top-ranked Fighting Irish on Friday night with a 5:00 kickoff.
