GRANITE FALLS – There was little that Nooksack Valley could do wrong on Friday night as they rolled Granite Falls 42-0 on the road. It was the 12th meeting between the schools, and the 12th victory for the Pioneers.
Nooksack Valley rolled up 437 rushing yards, and all six touchdowns scored were 25 yards or longer. Senior quarterback Cole Eldridge ripped off two long touchdown runs, and he also connected on a 42-yard touchdown pass with Ryan Veening, as he finished with 203 yards rushing and 107 yards passing, completing 9-of-18.
Running back Dane Winter also had a big game with 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just eight carries. Senior Braden Leyba also scored on a 44-yard touchdown run, and junior kicker Aidan Conner was a perfect 6-for-6 on his extra point attempts.
The defensive line also had a big day for the Pioneers with defensive tackle Easton Zylstra in on 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss. Defensive end Clancy Coppinger had three tackles behind the line of scrimmage and junior defensive tackle Alex Clawson had five tackles and a sack.
Junior safety Scout Whittern forced a fumble and intercepted a pass, and Leyba also intercepted a pass.
Nooksack Valley (1-1) will host King’s (0-2) on Friday.
