BELLINGHAM – The Buffaloes scored four quick touchdowns in the second quarter as Amador, a school from Sutter Creek, California, defeated Meridian 41-0 on Saturday evening.
The Trojans had a little bit of success early on, but ultimately made too many mistakes, and gave the Buffaloes too many short fields. The overall size and speed of Amador shut down the Meridian running game as the Trojans finished with negative rushing yards.
So, the Trojans went to the air, and they were successful on quick, short passes. Quarterback Cameron Webster completed 16 passes for 125 yards, but he was hurried all game and ultimately threw five interceptions. Two of them were returned for touchdowns in consecutive possessions in the second quarter. Senior Dylan Watt led Meridian with five receptions for 40 yards.
Defensively, senior defensive end Jon Boger had 1.5 tackles for loss, while senior Joseph Plagerman and junior Wesley Kurz each recovered a fumble.
The last time the Trojans began a season 0-3 was 1993, but in reality, they get to begin the conference season this week by hosting Nooksack Valley (2-1), where the slate is wiped clean.
