BLAINE – By allowing just 45 yards of total offense, the Borderite defense was in control all game as Blaine defeated the Seahawks 27-8 at Borderite Field on Friday night.
The Borderites stopped Chief Sealth for a loss, or no gain, on nine plays, and held the Seahawks to 0 yards on the ground. Senior defensive tackle Wyatt Cole led the charge with 2.5 tackles for loss, and senior defensive end Tyler Haggith had 1.5 sacks.
Offensively, Blaine was masterful in the ground game. Senior running back Oscar Caridad led the way with 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Junior Joshua Lopez scored on a dazzling 68-yard run late in the game which made up for an earlier fumble that a Seahawk defender returned 58 yards for a touchdown.
6-foot-3 junior quarterback Will McKinney stood strong in the pocket all game as he completed seven passes for 80 yards, including a 22-yard strike in the first quarter to senior Kavika Hee who was streaking across the field. Hee finished with a game-high four receptions for 55 yards.
The secondary was another bright spot for the Borderites as junior safety Seth Blomeen intercepted a pass that was tipped by junior linebacker Braden Stanovich, which he returned 15 yards, and senior safety Zane Rector had a marvelous diving interception later in the game.
Blaine (1-0) will host Lord Tweedsmiur (BC) this Friday.
