BLAINE – The last time these two squads faced off, the Borderites got the best of the Red Raiders in a close 5-set match. It took 509 days for these two teams to square off again, and Blaine again won three sets to two.
Bellingham won the first set 25-18, but the Borderites came back to win the next two (25-23 and 25-20). The Red Raiders came back to win set four 25-20, which set up the 15-13 win by Blaine in the fifth and final set.
Borderite senior Mia Scheepens led with 14 kills and three aces, while fellow senior Kylah Wilskey added three aces, five kills and a team-high 23 assists.
Blaine (1-0) will travel to Oak Harbor (0-1) on Thursday to take on the Wildcats at 7:00. Bellingham (0-1) will host Nooksack Valley (1-0) this Thursday at 7:00.
