BELLINGHAM – Already down two sets to one against Sehome, the Borderites won a tightly contested fourth set 27-25, and went on to win the fifth and deciding set 15-12 to pick up their third win of the season.

Senior outside hitter Mia Scheepens had a personal-high of 24 kills to lead the Blaine attack, and sophomore middle hitter Anika Hagen added six kills, four blocks and four aces.
“It was definitely a mental toughness match for my team,” Blaine coach Jacquie Smith said in an email. “They found themselves up and down throughout, but kept fighting.”
A major turning point for the Borderites was in the fourth set when sophomore Alyssa Bacon came up huge with her consistent serving to tie it up 2-2.
“The momentum from that win carried through to the fifth set,” Smith added. “The girls played with more confidence and determination. I’m super proud of my team!”
Blaine (3-7) will travel to Sedro Woolley (0-6) to take on the Cubs on Monday at 7:00. Sehome (1-9) will attempt to bounce back at Nooksack Valley on Saturday at 2:30.
