BLAINE – After a somewhat even first quarter, the Borderites exploded in the second quarter, scoring 27 points on their way to blanking the Pirates 55-0 at home on Friday night.
The win gives Andy Olson his first as the Blaine head coach.
Junior quarterback Colin Davis had a career-night with four touchdown passes, with three of them going to senior wide receiver Hunter Vezzetti.
Junior running back Jaiden Paez scored the first rushing touchdown of the game early in the second quarter, from 10 yards out. He finished with a team-high 82 yards on 10 carries.
The Blaine defense was stellar all evening, and it allowed just 37 total yards of offense.
It was led by junior inside linebacker Blake Koreski who finished with seven tackles, two sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. Senior Alejandro Moser-Hernandez also helped flip the field position a couple times with two blocked punts.
The Borderite defense also got interceptions from senior safety Riley Ihde, and senior cornerback Tyler Bouma. Ihde’s interception came just before halftime, and he returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
Ihde also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Davis, completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Jesse Deming, and ran in a touchdown from 15 yards out from the quarterback position.
Senior linebacker Kale Pai played great in the time-shortened second half, and he finished with 7.5 tackles and a quarterback sack.
The Borderites (1-2) will travel to Juanita High School next Saturday to take on Cedar Park Christian (1-2) at 7:00.
