BLAINE – All three schools represented well at a track meet in Blaine on Thursday. Many personal records were attained, and a lot of athletes had a good showing.
Blaine senior Dalton Mouw won in four events, including the 100 meters (11.39), the 200 meters (23.35) and as a part of both relay teams (4×100 with Isaiah Russ, Nicholas Pearson and Max Miller, and 4×400 with Russ, Miller and Trevor Freeland).
Another Borderite winner was senior Porter Schmidt and his 42’11” distance on the shot put.
Meridian juniors Dawson Logan and Harlon Stuit also had a big days. Logan won the triple jump (39’4″) and the javelin (146’10”) while Stuit took home the 110 hurdles (15.75) and the 300 hurdles (49.3).
The Trojans were also strong in the long distance races with junior Jenson Ellars winning the 800 (2:12), junior Jaskaran Dhatt winning the 1600 (4:50) and junior Nathan Schneider winning the 3200 (10:31).
The Mount Baker jumpers had a big day, especially sophomore Chris VanLiew who shocked everyone with a high jump of 6’4″. Junior Kobee Malone won the long jump (18’10”) and Mountie junior Jay Allen split the pole vault with Blaine junior Adam Vega, as they each cleared 10 feet.
Other Mount Baker winners included Junior Camacho (400 – 56.56) and Matias Velasquez (Discus – 131’9″)
Meridian and Blaine both dominated on the girls side, with each school picking up multiple victories.
Borderite senior Maharani Prasad won the shot put (35’8″) and the discus (105’1″) and senior Josie Deming won the javelin (106’9″) and she tied Meridian’s Katelyn Barnes and Rubijean Stuit with a high jump of 4’8″.
Other Blaine winners included senior Ayanna Holguin (400 – 1:10), sophomore Cassidy Condos (Pole vault – 8’6″) and freshman Myrthe Scheeps (Long jump – 13’11”). Holguin and Scheeps also teamed up with Milanna Fredericks and Brynn Hallberg to win the 4×100 relay with a time of 57.98.
Trojans junior Makenna Holz won both the 800 (2:51) and the 1600 (6:13). She was also a part of the winning 4×400 team that included Kady Aamot, Karissa Benson and Clair Skaggs, and their time was 5:05. Benson also won the triple jump (30’10”).
Stuit won both hurdles events for Meridian (100 – 18.63) and (300 – 52.54), and junior Mali Mack won the 100 meter dash with a tremendous time of 12.64. Mack was also a part of the winning 4×200 relay ream along with Tenley Swope, Aurya Downey and Emma Forbes, and their time was 2:03.
Mount Baker freshman Jenna Lenssen won the 200 meters with a time of 28.87.
