BLAINE – The Borderites got off to a hot start for the second week in a row, using a dynamic passing game to defeat Bainbridge 48-14 at Blane High School on Saturday afternoon.
Senior quarterback Avery Dohner tied a school record with five touchdown passes, and he threw them all in the first half. He joins Daniel Gorze (2008), Sean Allen (2010) and Nathan Kramme (2013) as the only players in school history to accomplish the feat.
Dohner’s first three pass attempts resulted in touchdowns, and he finished completing 14-of-17 passes for 294 yards.
Senior wide receivers Jaxon Kortlever and Scott Baldwin continued to show that they could be the best receiving duo in Whatcom County. Kortlever finished with six receptions for 177 yards and three touchdowns, and Baldwin caught four passes for 68 yards and two scores.
The Borderites ran the clock in the second half, and fed junior Larry Creasey. The 180-pound running back ran for most of his team-high 66 yards in the second half, including two touchdowns.
Middle linebacker Spencer Dalry had a huge game defensively with 14.5 tackles, including a tackle for loss and a quarterback sack. Blaine also got sacks from seniors Johnathan Puha and Alex Welch, and interceptions from Kortlever and sophomore linebacker Hunter Vezzetti.
The Borderites (2-0) will go on the road for the first time this Friday when they travel to Anacortes (1-1) to take on the Seahawks.
