MOUNT VERNON – The Golden Eagles took care of business in another conference game on Friday night, this time by trouncing Mount Vernon 41-21.
Coming into the contest, Ferndale senior running back Isaiah Carlson’s 13 touchdowns and 78 total points on the season were far ahead of the rest of the Whatcom County competitors. He put those numbers even more out of reach by scoring five touchdowns, all in the first half.
He also finished the game with a team-high 138 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Sophomore fullback Talan Bungard also scored from a yard out in the second quarter.
At halftime, Ferndale led 41-0 and had outgained the Bulldogs in yards from scrimmage 354-6.
The Golden Eagles played the entire second half with reserve players, and gave up three late passing touchdowns.
Sophomore running back Zach Nielsen had another great performance with 117 yards on the ground on just eight carries, and junior fullback Phoenyx Finkbonner toted the ball nine times in the second half and picked up 70 yards.
Finkbonner also led his team with five tackles.
The Golden Eagles (5-2) will travel to Stanwood (7-0) on Friday to take on the Spartans at 7:00 to determine the WesCo 3A North championship.
