MARYSVILLE – The Golden Eagles entered the district tournament as the fifth seed. They had beaten two higher seeds to get to the title match, where they faced the second seeded Snohomish Panthers. Ferndale dominated the first set, winning 25-15, and won the next two (25-23 and 25-21) to take home its third straight district championship on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles stood tall at the net, and finished with an amazing 11 blocks as a team. 5-foot-10 sophomore Alyvia Semu led her team with six of them.
5-foot-11 senior Nicole Headrick continued her overpowering play with a match-high 18 kills. Senior Malia Honrud set her teammates up all match with 36 assists, and Bri Byrnes and Kaelee Bungard combined for 31 digs.
Yakima’s SunDome will be the site as Ferndale (14-3) will open the 3A state tournament against Stadium (16-2) on Friday morning at 9:45.
