SEATTLE – It was an experience that the Ferndale football team will remember for a long time, but the result would like to be forgotten as Glacier Peak topped the Golden Eagles 42-14 at Lumen Field on Saturday afternoon.

Mason

Ferndale got off to a good start, when senior defensive end Jake Mason applied a strip sack, and the ball was recovered by brother linebacker Jordan Mason at their own 21-yard line, but the Grizzlies got the ball back after forcing a three-and-out, and a strong drive ended with the first touchdown of the game for Glacier Peak.

The Golden Eagles first got on the board in the beginning of the second quarter when junior quarterback Bishop Ootsey, who was celebrating his 17th birthday, threw a deep ball down the middle of the field and sophomore Zach Nielsen sprinted underneath it at scored a 51-yard touchdown.

The Grizzles scored on two more touchdown passes before Ferndale scored again, this time on a 1-yard run by senior Isaiah Carlson. The score was set up by an 18-yard scramble by Ootsey.

Ootsey

Glacier Peak scored on another long touchdown pass just before the half, and went into halftime with a 35-14 advantage.

Sophomore fullback Talan Bungard led the Golden Eagles on the ground with 52 yards on eight carries, and Ootsey finished with 92 yards passing.

Jake Mason once again led the Ferndale defense, with 8.5 tackles, two sacks, another tackle for loss and a forced fumble. They also got interceptions from senior cornerback Damien Toney and junior safety Aydin O’Tool.

The Golden Eagles (1-2) will resume conference play on Saturday when they play host to Arlington (3-0) at 6:00 at Blaine High School.
