ARLINGTON – The Eagles scored 15 points in the final minutes to come from behind and beat Ferndale 37-34 in a WesCo North Conference match up on Friday night.
Arlington senior quarterback Anthony Whitis tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper, the score that ultimately won the game. Whitis completed 15-of-29 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns.
The contest had five lead changes.
Ferndale senior fullback Gader Fox had another big game, rushing for 140 yards on 34 carries and four touchdowns. Both the 34 attempts and four TD’s are Whatcom County season highs. Senior half back Bryan Ebe also had a big game on the ground as he churned out 136 yards on 18 carries.
Senior quarterback Sequoyah Julius tossed his second touchdown of the season by connecting with senior Taylor Lupo from 13 yards away just before halftime. Lupo led the Golden Eagles with four receptions for 34 yards.
Defensively, Ferndale was led by Darius Washington who had a sack and a tackle for loss. The Golden Eagles also got sacks from defensive ends Geirean Hatchett and Brett Westford, while linebacker Uriah Guillory had a tackle for loss and senior safety Jaden Brown intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards.
The Golden Eagles (1-3) will travel to Oak Harbor (4-0) on Friday night.
