FERNDALE – The Golden Eagles put together four quarters of great football and gave the Ferndale fans the brand of gridiron action that they have been accustomed to over the years as they beat Marysville-Pilchuck 42-21 at home on Friday night.
Junior speedster Jacob Broselle began the game with a spectacular 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that brought the Ferndale faithful to their feet. The rest of the first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as the Tomahawks answered with a five-play 80-yard drive which resulted in a touchdown.
Senior halfback Bryan Ebe sprinted around right end to score on a 27-yard touchdown run, and Marysville-Pilchuck answered with a 95-yard kick off return for a touchdown. The back-and-forth action would end their, however, as the backs started to outweigh the forths. And by backs, I mean the Golden Eagle running backs that took center stage as the blue and gold rattled off touchdown run after touchdown run.
Senior fullback Gader Fox plowed through the middle of the Tomahawk defense score on a 10-yard run, and he also showed his foot speed on a 57-yard sprint to the end zone. Ebe scored his second and third touchdown of the contest on 1-yard strikes in which he took the direct snap.
Fox, playing linebacker on defense, also spearheaded an awesome goal line stand before halftime.
Ebe finished with 114 yards on 18 carries, and Fox had an even 100 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Marysville-Pilchuck got their yards in chunks, and still gained 265 yards on the ground, but the Ferndale defense stepped up when it counted and secured the big win, including an interception by senior Watiko Leighton.
Ferndale (2-5) will travel to Stanwood (1-6) to take on the Spartans this Friday night.
