FERNDALE – The Golden Eagles offense had a rough week last week at Sehome. In fact, it was the first time since 2009 that they didn’t score a touchdown against a Whatcom County opponent. Ferndale more than made up for it on Thursday night in beating Burlington-Edison 47-14.
It was big run after big run, as the Golden Eagle freight train running game simply couldn’t be stopped.
Junior Thomas Broselle carried the ball just seven times, but he racked up 163 yards on the ground as well as two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Haiden Rasmussen.
Sophomore Isaiah Carlson showed his patience, and his acceleration, as he darted through the Tiger defense for 135 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.
Junior fullback Ryan Pelton was injured early in the game, and was replaced by junior Elijah McCormick who went on to have his best varsity performance of 93 yards on 11 carries, including a 27-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagles were dominant in all phases of the game, though. The defense was led by junior linebacker Jazen Guillory who had seven tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. It appeared that he had his second forced fumble and fumble recovery in the third quarter, but the referee had already blown the whistle.
Senior safety Andrew Monks had six tackles and two passes broken up, while sophomore defensive end Jake Mason got his fifth sack of the year and sophomore cornerback Damien Toney intercepted a pass.
Burlington-Edison did score twice near the end of the game, including a dazzling 94-yard run by junior quarterback Zach Watson.
Ferndale (3-1) will travel to Mount Vernon (1-3) to take on the Bulldogs on Tuesday at 7:00.
