Ferndale Runs Past Marysville-Pilchuck

MARYSVILLE – The Golden Eagles remained unbeaten in conference play on Friday night when they defeated the Tomahawks 35-21 at Quil Ceda Stadium.

Senior Isaiah Carlson had his best game of the season as the 220-pound running back rumbled for 196 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. In fact, he accounted for 62% of his team’s offensive output.

His first touchdown came in the the first quarter on a blast up the middle for 11 yards, following the block of senior Landen Hatchett.

Sophomore halfback Zach Nielsen scored on a 5-yard touchdown run around the right end, while following his pulling offensive linemen, junior guard Camden Raymond and senior tackle Jake Mason.

Carlson scored again on a 4-yard plunge in the second quarter, and the Golden Eagles held a 21-0 advantage at the half.

Marysville-Pilchuck scored its first touchdown in the third quarter, on an 82-yard bomb down the left sideline. But, Ferndale came right back with a touchdown of it’s own, driving 84 yards on 12 plays, and capping it off with a 4-yarder by Nielsen, who finished with a career-high 110 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Hatchett

Carlson’s final score of the game came immediately after turning the Tomahawks over on downs, and the senior back followed another incredible block by Hatchett who pulled to his right to take out the defensive end, and sprinted 47 yards towards the end zone.

The Ferndale defense was led by Mason and Hatchett, who both putting pressure on the quarterback all night. Mason ended with seven tackles and three quarterback sacks, and Hatchett finished with five tackles and two sacks. Raymond also had a sack and a tackle for loss, while sophomore Jacob Gandy filled in well at middle linebacker and ended up leading his team with nine tackles. He also had an interception that he returned 22 yards.

The Golden Eagles (3-2) will play host to Marysville-Getchell (1-4) this Friday at 7:00 at Blaine High School.
