Ferndale freshman Audrey Holdridge sets up for a penalty kick

BLAINE – It was the first event in the long awaited new stadium at Blaine High School, but it was the Ferndale girls soccer team that came away with the 3-1 victory over the Borderites on Tuesday night.

It was just over 14 and a half minutes into the contest when Ferndale junior Kalia Peters scored the first goal of the game from 25 yards away. It started with a pass from junior Emily Monks to sophomore Christine Broselle, and Broselle led Peters perfectly and Kalia carefully lifted the ball into the back left corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later it was Broselle that scored a goal, this time from 11 yards out after a slick steal, and the game went into the half at 2-0.

The Golden Eagles were at it again in the second half. This time it was Peters assisting with a great pass that led to a goal by freshman Sofia Gardoski with just over 13 minutes played into the second half.

The Borderites got a late goal from junior Gabriela Catano.

Ferndale will travel to Squalicum to take on the Storm at 4:30 on Thursday, while Blaine will be travel to Oak Harbor and face the Wildcats on Thursday at 7:00.

  1. Love your coverage of WC high school sports! Presumably this Blaine-Ferndale matchup was sparsely attended. So how did the photographer have the misfortune of having to sit behind a post? Please note at the bottom of this page that we are asked to comment on the post.
