MOUNT VERNON – It was a rough week for the Ferndale volleyball team last week (losing two of three), but it was a great start to this week as the Golden Eagles won in three straight sets over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
Ferndale battled quite a few of its own unforced errors in the first set, but still came out on top, 25-17. However, they team was able to reset and come together in the next two sets as they won them 25-15 and 25-9.
Strong serving led the way for the Golden Eagles, as they totaled 18 aces on the evening, with senior Jamie Johnson and junior Kaelee Bungard each picking up six.
Ferndale junior Alyvia Semu led Ferndale with 14 kills, three blocks and a pair of aces.
Coach Patti Hoelzle said in an email that they are looking to keep growing this fairly new team chemistry together, as well as continuing to work on individual skills. Both will be needed with the way the Golden Eagle schedule is shaping up.
Ferndale (4-2) will host Anacortes (4-2) on Thursday at 7:00.
