LYNDEN – Lynden’s Trevin Hope, last year’s NWC pitcher of the year, picked up right where he left off on a windy but sunny afternoon on Saturday. Hope pitched a 5-inning complete game, due to the 10-run mercy rule, allowing only two hits and striking out 11, while leading the Lions to a 15-0 opening day victory. Hope simply overpowered the visiting Buccaneers with his fastball, then utilized his offspeed stuff low and away to keep them off balance the entire game. He was able to finish his five innings of work while facing just two over the minimum.
At the plate, the Lions did not have to manufacture a whole lot themselves as the Buccaneer pitchers struggled all afternoon to find the strikezone. The Lions’ patience in the box earned them 13 bases on balls, and three hit batsmen, and of those baserunners, 11 of them came across the plate to score.
With that said, Trevor Abitia and Dillion Geleynse each had a pair of hits and three RBI’s to lead the Lions offensively.
The Lions next face Ferndale at home in a big early season matchup on Wednesday at 4pm.
