LYNDEN – After finishing fourth place in the Nike Invitational Tournament at Burlington on Saturday (in which Burlington-Edison took first place), the Lions hosted the Tigers in a Northwest Conference Match on Tuesday, and defeated them in three straight sets.
All three sets were very close, with Lynden winning 25-23, 25-20 and 26-24. Senior twins Kennedy and Emily House each had three serving aces at key moments to help guide the Lions to victory.
They were also helped out by senior Savonne Sterk and her 11 kills and .391 hitting percentage. Junior middle blockers Faith Baar and Sierra McPhail stood tall with a combined 11 kills. Fellow junior Anna Vander Yacht was defensive machine with a team-high 15 digs to go along with her four kills. Senior Robin Scarlett ran a smooth offense with 27 assists.
Lynden (8-1) will travel to Anacortes (3-6) on Thursday to take on the Seahawks.
BELLINGHAM – In the closest volleyball match of the evening, the Storm outlasted the Trojans in five sets at Squalicum High School.
After being down two sets to one, the Storm rallied to win the fourth and fifth set, and ultimately take the match. Senior Daisy Cox had 15 kills, 15 digs and two aces, and senior Leah Austin was strong at the net with 14 kills. Sophomore Maddy Corrall had a great all-around game, contributing with 19 digs, eight aces and six kills, and junior Haley Nelson had 51 assists and 16 digs.
Meridian was led by a trio of sophomores. Finnley Claeys led with 15 kills, 10 digs and six aces, while Jolena Hoefer totaled 10 kills with a .381 hitting percentage while Malaysia Smith had 39 assists to go along with her five kills.
Squalicum (5-3) will travel to Nooksack Valley (4-5) on Thursday and the Trojans (6-4) will host Blaine (3-7) on Thursday.
In other scores, Lynden Christian topped Blaine 3-1, while Nooksack Valley beat Bellingham 3-0 and Ferndale conquered Sedro Woolley 3-0.
