BY MAKAYLA SPARKS – For Whatcom Preps
BOTHELL – After almost two months since the last Whatcom County team played a football game, four county seniors received the opportunity to be featured in the Cleats vs Cancer All-State game on January 15th at Pop Keeney Stadium.
The Cleats vs Cancer program was created in 2018 by Derek Sparks to benefit children and families battling cancer. Each year, the games feature some of the state’s best players with last year’s roster including Lynden class of 2023’s Lane Heeringa, Campbell Nolte, Troy Petz, and Isaiah Stanley.
This year, Lynden seniors Cooper Moore and Zach Welch, as well as Ferndale seniors Camden Raymond and Bishop Ootsey, were selected to be members of the North team that played in the earlier of two games.
Raymond was the only player of the bunch who played on the offensive side of ball, taking his snaps on the offensive line. Ootsey and Welch played the safety position, where Ootsey racked up 4.5 tackles and a sack while Welch had 6 tackles and a tackle for loss. Playing the corner position, Moore’s stat line included 3 tackles and 2 passes defended.
The North team won the game 37-0.
