BELLINGHAM – When quarterback Dawson Logan was sacked at the Sedro-Woolley 22-yard line on fourth down with less than a minute to go in regulation, it may have meant that the game was lost. However, the Meridian senior should also realize that the season still looks bright, mainly because of his outstanding effort. The Cubs topped the Trojans 10-7, but you can still expect big things from the boys in black and white.
Logan did it all. He led the team on the ground with 125 yards rushing on 22 carries, and he also completed 13-of 24 passes for 185 yards. Junior wide receiver Kevin Galiano was his main target, as they connected nine times for 154 yards.
Both defenses were stingy in the first half, with neither team reaching the end zone. Sedro-Woolley settled for a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter, making it a 3-0 game at halftime. Multiple outstanding plays by Logan and Galiano allowed the Trojans to get inside the one-yard line of the Cubs in the third quarter. But, a penalty knocked them back five yards, and senior back Dylan Hickok was able to get around right end for the touchdown.
Sedro’s quarterback scored on a keeper up the middle from three yards out in the fourth quarter, and the Cubs never looked back.
The Trojans made it interesting, though, on their final drive, which included a 30-yard strike to a diving Galiano at the Cub 20-yard line. But, the quarterback sack four plays later ended Meridian’s hopes for a victory.
