POULSBO – Growing up, playing catch in the backyard with your cousin is a memorable moment for any youngster. When you get to do the same thing as a high schooler under the lights, it can be amazing.

Robertson

Lynden Christian juniors, and first cousins, Eli Maberry and Boyce Robertson connected eight times for 191 yards and three touchdowns as the Lyncs downed North Kitsap 26-15 on Friday night.

The Vikings moved the ball well on their first drive, but stalled in the red zone and had to settle for a 29-yard field goal.

The Lyncs countered by taking to the air immediately, and Maberry was a perfect 6-for-6 for 90 yards on their opening drive, which culminated in a 9-yard touchdown toss to Robertson.

After trading possessions, the Vikings were stopped on 4th down near midfield when senior linebacker Trey Bosman shot through the gap to make a play behind the line of scrimmage. Moments later, Maberry found Robertson for a touchdown again, this time on a 26-yard jump ball down the right sideline.

North Kitsap closed the gap to 12-9 when its quarterback darted through the LC defense for a 30-yard touchdown run, but the Lyncs were able to get one more score before the half when Maberry whizzed a pass over the middle to senior slot receiver Mick Owen who hauled in the 8-yard touchdown grab.

Maberry

The Vikings quickly moved down the field just before the half, but had to settle for a long field goal attempt, which came up short. The Lyncs led 19-9 at the half.

North Kitsap scored again in the third quarter, which lessened the Lync lead to 19-15, but Lynden Christian answered back immediately when Maberry hit his cousin on a 6-yard hitch, and Robertson broke a few tackles, outsprinted everyone and turned it into a 78-yard touchdown.

Maberry was on target all evening, as he completed 20-of-30 passes for 293 yards.

Bosman led the defense once again with 10.5 tackles, three tackles for a loss and a pass deflection. Sophomore cornerback Dawson Hintz added nine tackles.

The Lyncs (1-1) will be at home on Friday when they take on Okanogan (2-0) at 6:00.
